Red Rising

Colour has no light, no sound
no right to find the love it drowns
no flower girl to bring delight
nor appetite to mend the slight

Colour has the right to reign
to bring all hours to the flame
from moons to stars to eldritch tongues
cause enough to fight the rain

Colour brings no tears to fall
to round the mountains of the law
physics bend and break at will
as we light the spectrum wall

Colour brings what music won’t
to lift the lies right out from those
that fight defiantly and pause
when colours come to meet with prose

Colours run as eyesight wanes
when all the beauty starts to fade
dreams collide in emerald lanes
and all the fools return to play

Colours run away and go
as my lover longs to know
the reason I have hidden far
in the midday afterglow

of all the Colours we have found
none compare to love and sound
no descriptions lie in sight
to bring a view of those around

of all the Colours I have seen
none compare to evergreen
or Red, the hue of love’s domain
without her, I cannot be Rain

The Forest God

I have found myself in the stillness of the air
adrift in the hours of twilight
as another day has fallen prey to my efforts
the hounds lay still
and God whispers to me of a moonless night
laughter erupts from the both of us
as we dance there in the shadows
it was the night I grew swords and spears
from the depths of my eyelids
and he felt fear for the first time

my light had been fading for nearly a decade
my heart grew cold
and my mind was the reason for this folly
never again was I to swoon before her majesty
the Goddess of Night
I waged a war darker than black
word had spread of the wonder
the Ashborn Kings fled their keeps
all men, all women, and all their spawn
had fallen to my blade

I am weak, no more
not like the years that came before
madness is a fate I can no longer speak of
voiceless in the night
I wander
onward to places out of reach
seeking treasures out of mind
rending the flesh from my own body
I know your name
and my doubt reclaims the throne

new words have fallen into play
the essence of a nameless torment
I linger on in this darkening world
knowing that we suffer
knowing that we die
alone
struggle is the norm in this new era
my heart clings to a new drumbeat
a new song
a new way for my eyes to burn
atone

the day begins for those that slumber
the night begins for that wake
I rise from a bed of moss and loam
my eyes shut
the wind stirs around me as I shift
and shake the earthen bonds that I’ve broken
mountains move, the forest quakes
bring me a soul to mold anew

again I serve
again I break
